Fashion Critic Cathy Horyn Enters the Folds of Sarah Burton's Spring 2012 McQueen Collection

The New York Times fashion critic Cathy Horyn meets Alexander McQueen Creative Director Sarah Burton at the label’s Paris atelier to explore the house’s intricate, marine-inspired Spring/Summer 2012 collection in Dustin Lynn’s stunning portrait film. Displaying a love and knowledge of fashion far beyond the catwalk, Horyn’s notorious studio visits define her style as a journalist, producing lyrical portraits of designers truly dedicated to the rigor of cutting and creating clothes. Before becoming head of the fashion house, Burton worked as McQueen’s right hand for 14 years. “With Sarah, it has a lot to do with the training she has had at McQueen, and just knowing what the McQueen studio had been like under Lee,” says Horyn of Burton’s qualification for the job. “It was always a place where it was about the technique and craft.” After the turmoil following McQueen's tragic suicide last year, the provocative label has returned stronger than ever with sumptuously beautiful collections, the record-breaking Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty retrospective at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute attracting over 650,000 visitors, and Burton designing the Duchess of Cambridge’s much-lauded gown for the royal wedding.

Preview the Upcoming Tom Ford Documentary

The Visionaries: Tom Ford documentary that has been promised for some time now — "You know I've never let anyone film me like this before," Ford tells the cameras — finally has a premiere date.

This Sunday, Oct. 23, at 8 p.m. EDT/PDT on OWN is it: when Ford talks about being laughed at for wanting to make a movie and gives a tour of his design studio. Director Michael Bonfiglio, who followed Ford — all access — from his return to womenswear in September 2010 through this past February when he opened his Los Angeles store, says of filming the designer: "I think the most memorable thing, actually, was when I finally showed Tom a rough cut of the film. I flew to Los Angeles to show it to him, and I was very nervous. Given how particular he is about his work — and especially because he's a filmmaker — I was anticipating leaving the screening with ten pages of notes about things he wanted changed. We screened it at a hotel, and he brought one of his colleagues to watch it with us. I sat a little bit behind him, so I could see his reactions as he watched — and about 10 minutes in, I could tell he was pleased. When it was over, he had a big smile on his face, told me he loved it, and essentially had no notes — aesthetic or otherwise."

The Superstar Model Takes the Bull by the Horns in Axel Lindahl’s Erotically Charged Short

Fierce Russian beauty Anna Selezneva battles a raging, invisible bull in today’s matador-inspired short by Swedish director Axel Lindahl. Fascinated by the dichotomy of brutality and grace inherent in the historic Spanish bloodsport, Lindahl took on the part of the invisible beast, shouting hysterical profanities at Selezneva to provoke a performance that would capture the urgency and danger of a real fight. “I wanted to do something real and concentrated,” says Lindahl, “and this was the key for me: if you lose the bull for a second, you’re dead. The bull always wins.” Here, Lindahl takes us behind the scenes of the high-intensity set.

On set: prosciutto and melon, Diet Coke and red wine. Room service favorites included meatballs from the Caina Restaurant at the Nobis Hotel, Stockholm, where we were all staying.
